Another amazing lesson under our belt. Started in groundwork, changes of direction are becoming smoother and I’m able to help him lift up through the shoulders to stay balanced. Shoulder-in feel is coming nicely, I’m able to support inside left leg stepping more under and keep my body position clear. Haunches-in on the wall was so much better today, he was able to have me up close to his neck and I got some pretty clear steps to the left. To the right, he still pushes a lot because he falls on that dominant right shoulder and the left hind struggles to step under.

Riding was really soft and pleasant. He wanted to resist against my inside left rein and pull us into the corner by the mirrors, but I realized how to guide the inside rein open with a connected outside rein that’s not blocking but guiding. Think guide outside, invite inside and give with my hand when he releases. I had a clear feeling that I was balanced in my hands and using them to support my seat aids.

Canter was amazing too, we got it twice to the left with only my leg aids!! It felt free. And we are finding such balanced, relaxed trot work between the canter pieces. Over the moon with our progress. Meg wants to try a new bit, stay tuned.
